Australia’s phosphate
fertiliser, made where it’s mined

At Phosphate Hill in North West Queensland, we mine and process our own phosphate rock to make MAP and DAP fertilisers on one integrated site.

Our assets

Three sites,
one Queensland supply chain

From raw materials in North West Queensland to finished fertiliser moving through the Port of Townsville, each location has a distinct role in one connected operation.

    Mine & manufacture

    Phosphate Hill

Phosphate rock is mined and beneficiated on site. It then moves through Phosphate Hill’s phosphoric acid, ammonia and granulation facilities to produce MAP and DAP fertilisers.

  • Aerial night view of the Mount Isa acid plant with lit industrial facilities and steam.

    Sulphuric acid

    Mount Isa acid plant

The Mount Isa facility produces sulphuric acid used at Phosphate Hill. Rail carries the acid to the integrated site, where it supports phosphoric acid and fertiliser production.

  • Bulk fertiliser stored inside an industrial shed.

    Port & logistics

    Townsville Port

The Port of Townsville supports incoming manufacturing materials and receives finished fertiliser from Phosphate Hill by rail. Its logistics facilities connect the operation with Australian distribution and export markets.

About

A new name for an established Queensland operation

Southern Cross Fertilisers (SCF) is the trading name of Ryowa II GPS Pty Ltd. On 30 June 2026, Ryowa II GPS completed its acquisition of the Phosphate Hill business and assumed ownership and operating control of its three Queensland facilities.

The acquired business brings together the integrated Phosphate Hill mine and manufacturing complex, the Mount Isa sulphuric acid plant, and Townsville port and office facilities. Rail and port infrastructure connect manufacturing inputs and finished product across the operation.

Mined and made inland,
shipped from the coast

Rail links our three Queensland facilities, carrying manufacturing inputs to Phosphate Hill and finished fertiliser east to Townsville for Australian distribution and export.

Australian-made

From locally mined rock
to finished fertiliser

SCF is Australia’s only domestic producer of ammonium phosphate fertilisers.

At Phosphate Hill, the mine and beneficiation plant supply phosphate rock to the site’s phosphoric acid, ammonia and granulation facilities, producing mono-ammonium phosphate (MAP) and di-ammonium phosphate (DAP).

The Mount Isa acid plant supplies sulphuric acid used in production. Rail links both sites with the Port of Townsville, supporting incoming materials and the distribution and export of finished fertiliser.
